Defects and limitations

There are some unresolved defects in the dictionary, which I hope to address. There may be spelling defects, where sh appears rather that h. This was an issue for ovodóshi, now corrected to ovodohi – ovodóshi was the dominant pronunciation in my data but pronounced shi comes from hi therefore I changed the spelling. I may well have missed some spelling corrections.

A design defect that is not changeable in the foreseeable future is that data in the web display is a stream of HTML text derived from a xml-style table where the phonetic form is the third column. Unfortunately, you cannot limit a search to a specific column.

One goal was to put all instances of a root physically together, but this doesn’t quite happen for two reasons. First, suffixes interrupt the ordering of words. The root meaning ‘law, agree’ figures into at least 3 words, but ‘law’ which has a suffix -o is ordered after the root -laagil ‘eat ugali’.

Second, sometimes the linguistically-proper root is not identified via the prefix-chopping method. The word endolelo ‘pupil of eye’ is clearly derived from the root -lol- ‘see’, but it is alphabetized near ko-doola ‘pick up’ and izin-doolo ‘sleep’. I expect a solution to be developed eventually.
